Râșnov Fortress

One of the best preserved peasant fortresses in Transylvania, built by the inhabitants Râșnov (apparently with the help of those from neighbouring localities, Cristian and Vulcan) to defend against the increasingly frequent attacks of the Turks and Tatars in the 13-th and 14-th centuries. The fortress was built by the peasants in the area, it does not have an established architectural style, the most important criterion in building it was to make the fortress as difficult as possible to conquer. Thus, it was built of stone and brick on a rocky hill near the city.
